Renault Trucks has been selling trucks with communicating embedded technology for more than a decade. The aim is to offer our customers powerful and robust tools and support them with telematics services to optimise their activities.
In this digital context, Renault Trucks has always paid particular attention to data protection, including personal data.
For Renault Trucks, the GDPR - General Data Protection Regulation - is just another step in a process that started in the early 1980s.
Over all these years, Renault Trucks has complied with all its legal obligations and, in particular, those relating to the successive evolutions of Law No 78-17 of 1978 on IT, databases and civil liberties.
Since 2009, Renault Trucks has had a personal data protection officer to ensure compliance with regulations in this area, even though this was optional.
This was also part of the Volvo Group's policy for which the protection of personal data is essential.
Since 2013, personal data protection has been an integral part of the IT policy that is binding for all employees and service providers (this policy is attached to the Internal Regulations).
In a constant effort to protect personal data, Renault Trucks has been striving for several years to obtain the same commitment from its service providers and subcontractors and ensures the application of its rules in this area.
The arrival of the GDPR (25 May 2018) only reinforces a data security policy that Renault Trucks has long been paying attention to. Renault Trucks' approach is now complemented by new features:
Implementation of new governance led by a Data Protection Officer.
Definition of a documentation repository with guidelines on the different categories of personal data and procedures better tailored to the company's activities.
Finally, the protection of personal data requires strong IT security, for which internal controls have been developed to ensure an optimal level of security.
Renault Trucks guarantees the security of everyone's (partners, customers and employees) personal data.
